Default Ford Focus Shudder

I've had enough time in a 2014 Ford Focus with the dual clutch automatic transmission that I can see there's a major problem with how the car starts off in first gear - and sometimes shifts into second. Sometimes it's perfectly smooth but other times there's a very noticeable and annoying shudder - mainly as you're just taking off.

When this happens, take your foot off the gas for a second and give the transmission a moment to get it's act together. You'll eventually get used to this and it'll become second nature - and the car will bother you much less - as well as your passengers.

It's really silly that Ford allowed this to happen with so many of these vehicles and there's really no fix for it. You can have the transmission reflashed from time to time (at the dealer) and it'll help for awhile - but the shudder will be back to annoy you in short time.

It's actually a pretty nice small car in case anyone is thinking of buying one...

It also could be caused by a faulty transmission seal.

That's good to know. Thank you for the update! It's a pretty common problem but I imagine the issue could be remedied with a new seal...

Welcome! It's actually a pretty well built car. Which year are you getting? And what car is it replacing?
