Default Does Size Really Matter?

I think the main question should be, Does matching wheel size with a tire's load ratting really matter?.. In this case I think it's very important to match the correct wheel size with a tire that has a 97 or better load rating.

A poster at another forum ask if he can have 18'' wheels on his Transit Connect. By all means go for it.. except one may have an issue find the correct load rated tires and theres not allow of space in those wheels well.

According to many sources I've spoken with over these last few months before deciding on the 16' Sparco wheels.. Several of those I spoke with (sites like Tirerack, discount tire, wheelpros, 1010tire etc) nearly everyone of them "say" that the 17 x 8 or larger will fit on the TC. The issue is, the wheels are too wide, too heavy and matching up the wheels with tires and retaining the 97 or above load rating is critical.

We ordered a demo set of wheels from 4x4online which came from wheelpros.. even those these wheels are listed as 17x8 they actually measure 18x9 and with the center bore being so large, there was no way these heavy wheels would have worked under/on our van.. So we opted for the 16x7 sparco wheels.. in this case the wheels actually measured 17 x 8 which do fit snuggle under the van and allows room for the brake components.

The wider sparco wheel wasn't our first choice and we could have had sponsorship if we went with wheels from 2 other manufactures located in Europe. Long story short.. If you can find a wheels 18'' (measures 19'') that fits under the van without rubbing and then find a 97 or better load rated tire that works with this set up, more power to you. When our tires (215/55/16) wear out, we feel that we could opt for the 225/50/16 tires (measuring 25.8) next time.. only time will tell.
